VTCT Skills Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Barbering (601/5888/8)
Overview
This one-year course is aimed at qualified barbers wishing to develop their skills and creative ability. Level 3 will give the opportunity to share experiences with other professionals and to help you realise your own potential. This course provides professional training of the highest standard in a realistic and modern working environment.
The subjects covered are the theory and practice of advanced Barbering which will include:
- Client Consultation
- Creative Cutting
- Creative facial hair shapes and shaving
- Develop and enhance your Creative Barbering Skills (competition work)
- Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities.
- Design and create patterns in hair.
This course provides a qualification that is recognised internationally by industry and is based on the national occupational standards for barbering. You will be taught by highly trained and experienced staff in fully equipped barbering salons and will develop new skills and learn client procedures in a friendly, professional, and supportive environment.
To complement and enhance understanding, you will study relevant underpinning knowledge and will gain valuable experience in our salons. You will further develop your skills through project-based learning demonstrations, practical workshops, lectures, tutorials, competition work, master classes and industry visits.
Essential Skills Level 2 qualifications in Literacy and Numeracy are also part of the programme of study for students who have not achieved a Grade C or equivalent in these subjects.
This programme of study is likely to include additional enrichment activities/module(s) which are included to enhance your employability.

All courses within Belfast Met are delivered and assessed in English, apart from language-specific courses. Your competence in English must be verified prior to enrolling on your chosen course.

You will be required to buy a Belfast Met uniform, costing approximately £45.00 and kit costing approximately £60.00 (if needed). Lists of kit requirements will be sent to students once enrolled.
Assessment on this programme will be by practical, written, and online assessment.

Working in a salon as a Barber, self-employment, or further study in a related area. Course may facilitate the progression onto a higher-level qualification in a related area.
