VTCT Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy (500/8839/7)
Overview
This one-year industry standard qualification is based on national occupational standards for beauty therapy. The qualification is aimed at learners who are looking to start a career in the beauty therapy industry.
This course aims to ensure learners develop the wider workplace skills required by employers. It combines an accredited project qualification, practical work experience and critical skills development, giving learners the opportunity to practice and develop their skills working in live salon environments throughout the duration of the course.
You will further develop your skills through project-based learning, transversal skills, demonstrations, practical workshops, lectures, tutorials, competition work, master classes and industry visits.
You will be taught by highly experienced staff in our fully equipped beauty salons. You will develop new skills and learn client procedures in a friendly, professional, and supportive environment. Within this course you will study a range of interesting subjects including:
- Facials
- Manicure/Pedicure
- Lash & Brow treatments
- Apply Makeup
To complement these subjects, you will also study areas of business and health and safety.
You will gain valuable experience gaining practical skills in our commercial salons. You will further develop your skills through project-based learning demonstrations, practical workshops, lectures, tutorials, competition work, master classes and industry visits.
This programme of study is likely to include additional enrichment activities/module(s) which are included to enhance your employability.

Academic course entry requirements
You must hold a minimum of a Level 1 qualification, defined as four GCSEs at grades D to G including Maths grade D and English grade D or equivalent.
Non-academic course entry requirements
Important: All applicants must also meet the following conditions:
- be 16 years old by 1 July 2026.
- provide proof of:
§ Right to Study in the UK. For courses with work placement, proof of your right to work in the UK is also required.
§ Photographic proof of identity
- Provide translated copies of and/or demonstrate equivalency of non-UK qualifications.

All courses within Belfast Met are delivered and assessed in English, with the exception of language specific courses. Your competence in English must be verified prior to enrolling on your chosen course.

All fees are set in accordance with DfE regulations.
This course tuition fee is fully funded by the Department for the Economy.
Student are required to supply their own kit, costing approximately £155 and a uniform costing approximately £90. Lists of kit and uniform requirements will be given once student is enrolled.
Assessment will be carried out in the form of building a portfolio of evidence. This is including practical observations via a commercial clinic throughout the year and online exams.
Careers
Students with this qualification will often progress to self-employment or find employment in beauty therapy settings, for example, salons, cruise liners, television studios or as a beauty salon owner.
You may also advance to Level 3 beauty qualifications.
