About the Course This course is funded through the Skill Up programme. The Skill Up programme is designed to offer additional upskilling and reskilling opportunities to improve the skills of the local workforce. The Level 5 Award in Leadership and Management is for practicing middle managers and is designed to help them improve their skills and experience, prepare for senior management responsibilities, and improve performance.

Qualification overview The Award from Belfast Met is made up of two units:

  1. Becoming an Effective Leader, with a credit value of 3.
  2. Developing and Leading Teams to Achieve Organisational Objectives, with a credit value of 5.

ASSESSMENT Candidates must complete a written assessment for each unit. The assessment will be a workplace-based assignment (approx. 2,000–3,000 words each).

 

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE The program begins on Thursday 15th January 2026 and ends on Thursday 12th March 2026. The course will be delivered via online class workshops, assignment tutorials, and CANVAS.

Week 3 – Direction & Communication - 29th January

Week 4 – Tutorial - 5th February

Week 5 – Assignment Hand In - 12th February  (Half Term Break)

Week 6 – Understanding Teams and Organisational Goals - 19th February

Week 7 – Reviewing and Developing Your Leadership - 26th February

Week 8 – Tutorial - 5th March

Week 9 – Assignment Hand In - 12th March

  • Places on courses are limited and course dates are subject to change.
  • Students must be available to attend during class hours.
  • Minimum numbers will be required before a course will run. 

Eligibility

To take part in a Skill Up course or programme, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Applicants to be 18 years or older at point of enrolment.
  • Applicants must have a right to work and undertake training in the UK at the point of application and for the duration of the course and must not be disqualified from doing either by reason of their immigration status. Proof of this will be required to progress application. Prove your right to work to an employer: Overview - GOV.UK;
  • Individuals will be available to register in person at provider campus as required;
  • Individual courses may have enhanced eligibility, details of which will be provided by The Provider.

It is also essential that applicants' current management role enables them to have a contemporary evaluation of their leadership skills and management. Documentation that confirms eligibility for the criteria listed above will be required before a place on the course can be secured.

The courses are delivered online, and learners must have access to a computer or laptop and the internet. Tablets, mobile phones, and TVs are not compatible and should not be used for this course.
