Overview

The TAQA assessor qualification replaces the A1 and A2 assessor awards and the D32/33 units. These practitioner qualifications are designed to support the assessment of all new RQF and QCF qualifications and other accredited and non- accredited qualifications.

The certificate is designed for practitioners who assess the achievement of competence in a work environment and in vocationally related situations, using the following assessment methods: observation, examining work products, oral questioning, and discussion, use of others (e.g., witnesses), learner statements and RPL, assessments in simulated environments, skills tests, written question, assignments, projects, and case studies.

The certificate comprises of 3 units:

  • Unit 1: Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (3 credits)
  • Unit 2: Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment (6 credits)
  • Unit 3: Assess Vocational Skill, Knowledge and Understanding (6 credits)

You will be required to attend a 4 on-line classes followed by one-to-one tutorials and workplace assessments.

Requirements

Candidates undertaking this award must be providing assessment to at least 2 learners. You will be provided with access to learners within the college Hair and Beauty training salons and therefore there is a commitment to attend a number of allocated classes between Feb-May in order to carry out your assessments with students.

You should also be occupationally competent and hold at least a level 3 qualification in the subject area you wish to assess and C or equivalent in English and Maths. To confirm that you have the skills, potential and opportunity to gain the qualification successfully, attendance at an initial pre-entry guidance session and completion of a skills scan will be mandatory.

You will be provided with access to learners within the college Hair and Beauty training salons and therefore there is a commitment to attend a number of allocated classes throughout the academic year in order to carry out your assessments with students. 

Please note this qualification is delivered and assessed in English. It is therefore essential that learners who do not have English as their first language hold a minimum of a level 2 ESOL qualification in written and spoken English.

Assessment

You will be assessed through completion of an assignments and compilation of a portfolio of evidence to include observation of assessment practice and professional discussion.
