Overview
These qualifications are for those with significant responsibility for effective coaching and mentoring as part of their daily role within an organisational context. They are also ideal for individuals who wish to move into a development role or develop a career as a coach or mentor. This course is delivered in a blended learning format, with monthly face to face workshops supplemented with weekly online sessions and self-directed learning.
The course will allow you to:
- Assess your own skills, knowledge and behaviours as a coach and mentor.
- Know how to manage the coaching or mentoring process within an organisational context.
- Deepen your understanding of how the organisational context can affect coaching or mentoring.
- Plan, deliver and review your coaching and mentoring.
- Plan your future development in coaching or mentoring.
For employers it ensures that you develop effective coaches and mentors equipped with the skills knowledge and understanding required to develop a coaching culture to improve performance and productivity.
The course includes completion of the following 3 units totalling 16 credits:
- Understanding the Skills, Principles and Practice of Effective Coaching and Mentoring within an Organisational Context.
- Undertaking Effective Coaching or Mentoring within an Organisational Context.
- Reviewing Own Ability as a Coach or Mentor within an Organisational Context

To enter students must have an appropriate level of written and spoken English to meet the academic requirements of a Level 5 qualification. It is recommended that students hold a level 3 qualification.
Students must also work in an organisation or have access to a setting where they have access to 2-3 individuals that they can coach and mentor for a total of 18 hours.
All courses within Belfast Met are delivered and assessed in English, apart from language-specific courses. Your competence in English must be verified prior to enrolling on your chosen course.

Assessment Method: Assignment and portfolio evidence to include observation of coaching practice.
Assessment is based on continuous course work and evidence must be work based/related.
Careers
The Level 5 Certificate in Effective Coaching and mentoring provides access to careers in coaching and mentoring, management, learning and development. Belfastmet are a provider member of the Association of Coaching and learners can avail of free membership for 12 months as part of their qualification.
