Overview

This Certificate in Higher Education (Cert HE) in Humanities is a two-year part time course, in which students undertake 120 credits of study at Level 4.  This Higher Education course is awarded by Ulster University.  Students who successfully complete the award, may apply for a variety of Higher Education courses, notably they may articulate to study Humanities subjects at degree level with Ulster University, where this Cert HE is accepted as equivalent of the first year of study.  Students will study:

Year One:

Module 1: Ireland: Struggle and Conflict 1750 - 1981

Module 2: Britain: The rise and fall of an Empire  1750 - 1951

Module 3: Enveloped in the Unspoken: Modern Belfast Writing

Year Two:

Module 1: American Gothic and Literary Theory

Module 2: The making of modern America from Revolutionaries to Superpower

Module 3: Creative and Academic Writing

Requirements

• Applicants must have attained a pass in one subject at GCE A Level and grades A, B, C in three other subjects at GCSE level or an equivalent standard in an Ulster approved alternative qualification; 

and
• Applicants must provide evidence of a competence in written and spoken English (GCSE grade C) or equivalent Ulster approved qualification;

or
• Applicants must normally provide evidence of their ability to undertake the programme through the accreditation of prior experiential learning.
