Overview

Civil Engineers keep our towns and cities running smoothly by engineering the infrastructure we use in our everyday lives including roads, bridges, water supplies and buildings.  They design and install the networks that supply energy such as gas and electricity, along with communications to our homes and public buildings.

The Extended Diploma is a two-year, full-time course that meets entry requirements in its own right for learners who want to progress to higher education courses in civil engineering areas before entering employment.  It is the equivalent in size to three A Levels.

The qualification is intended to meet the educational base for registration as a technician.  It supports learners who want to progress directly to employment in roles in civil engineering as technicians, or to a professional construction role and advanced/Higher Apprenticeships in civil engineering.

Key Areas of Study include:

  • Construction Principles
  • Construction Design
