CPCAB Level 2 Award in Introduction to Counselling Skills (Skill Up) (500/7762/4)

Overview

The main topics are:

  • Exploration of Active Listening and Responding Skills;
  • Understanding Counselling and Related Terms;
  • Confidentiality and Related Issues;
  • Exploring self and how we relate to others;
  • Practical role-plays and small group work.

 

Attendance

Ten weeks, part-time, three hours per week.

The course is run in the evening at our Millfield Campus.

  • You must be a resident of Northern Ireland to qualify for this course funding,
  • Places on courses are limited and course dates are subject to change.
  • Students must be available to attend during class hours.
  • Minimum numbers will be required before a course will run. 

Eligibility

To take part in a Skill Up course or programme, you must be:

  • Over 18 years of age;
  • Eligible to work in Northern Ireland;
  • ‘Settled’ in Northern Ireland, and has been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least three years; or is a person who has indefinite leave to enter or remain in the UK

Documentation confirming eligibility of the above criteria will be requested prior to securing a place on the course.

 

 

You will be required to have a conversation with the a member of the course team prior to enrolment to ensure eligibility and you must have a level of spoken English that allows you to complete the assessment requirements of the course. 

Because of the nature of this course it is not suitable for those who are currently in a state of severe emotional difficulty or psychological confusion.

Assessment

You will be assessed by way of a Learning Review which you will write throughout the course; by tutor observation of your skills, practice and completion of a portfolio of evidence.

This course will be beneficial to those wishing to complete a first course in Counselling. It will provide the opportunity to enhance listening and helping skills in both a professional and private capacity.
This qualification is intended for candidates who want to learn counselling skills to help others – either in a voluntary or an employed situation - and want to find out more about this field.


This course won’t teach them to be a counsellor but may help them decide whether or not to continue training.
