Overview
City & Guilds 7161 Textiles offers the novice and the more advanced needlecraft student the chance to learn new skills and advance their proficiency in a wide range of hand and machine sewing techniques while including a variety of related craft processes.
These courses are designed to enrich your learning and your achievement through structured classes divided between research, sampling and craft units.
These courses are very much hands-on and last 30 weeks per year, one day per week generally on a Thursday, 9.00 am - 3.45 pm
Students study a range of units including:
• Research
• Design
• Craft - Hand embroidery, Machine embroidery
• No formal qualifications needed but enthusiasm is a requirement!
• Basic knowledge of stitching (machine or hand).
Fees:
Academic period 2025:
FE Tuition Fee = £460.00 (Concessionary = £276.00)
Examination / Registration Fee = £120.00
Fees are payable annually.
Every student’s work is Internally Verified once a year and may be selected for External Verification at the end of the year.
Careers
Learners are encouraged to exhibit their work with the group.
Students are welcome to apply to study a Foundation Diploma in Art & Design at BMC or beyond and BA (Hons) in Fine & Applied Art (Textiles) at University of Ulster. Many of our current students exhibit their work and some have set up small businesses.
