Pearson BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Music Industry Skills (603/2475/2)

Overview

The Music Industry Level 2 is designed for post-16 students who wish to improve their basic instrumental and production skills with a working knowledge of the music industry. Students will explore elements such as music theory, music production and self-promotion. Performance classes are designed to develop students’ existing instrumental skills, whilst production classes will develop knowledge and understanding of production software and the recording studio. Successful students may be able to progress onto the Level 3 Music Performance or Production courses subject to meeting course entry requirements. Alternatively students may be able to use their sector-specific knowledge and practical skills to take on an apprenticeship within the local music industry.

Pre-Entry Advice

One of the lecturers on Level 2 Music has made number 2 on the Pure Ambient Apple Music Playlist. As well as lecturing from Level 2 to HND Level Music for the past fifteen years at the College, Greg is a music producer for Lunar Orbit Rendezvous, recently signed to Ransom Note's label.

Requirements

Minimum entry requirements are pre-defined by the College’s admissions criteria, which can be found by visiting our entry criteria page on this link

There are no formal entry requirements but we expect learners to have qualifications at or equivalent to Level 1.

Learners are most likely to succeed if they have:

  • Three or Four GCSEs at intermediate grades and/or
  • BTEC qualification(s) achieved at least at Level 1
  • at least Level 1 equivalent achievement in English and mathematics through GCSE or Functional Skills.

Please note: Students are expected to provide their own instrument to further encourage learning and growth of proficiency during the course.

Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) for HE Courses

APL allows you to use evidence from prior learning or experience to gain entry onto a course at Belfast Met. Belfast Met will work with you to make sure that relevant learning or work experience is formally recognised through the APL Process. All courses within Belfast Met are delivered and assessed in English, with the exception of language specific courses. Your competence in English must be verified prior to enrolling on your chosen course.
