Overview

This is a two-year part-time course which is designed to attract students who want to progress into Higher Education within the fields of Computing and Economics. This course will develop your knowledge and application of both Computing and Economics and prepare you to progress to Higher Education. Additional costs may be incurred for materials required for Maths including a calculator and geometry set. Further costs may be incurred for core texts for the modules.

About the course 

On the course you will be taught modules in Computing, Maths and Economics.  These modules have been designed in conjunction with Ulster University to ensure the students are prepared to progress to a Higher Education course in the fields of Computing and Economics. Modules include*:

  • Computing Concepts in Cyber Security
  • Introductory Maths for Computing
  • Web Development
  • Economics for Industry
  • MySQL and Database Design
  • Programming Principles in Python
  • Maths for Computing

This programme of study is likely to include enrichment activities/module(s) to enhance your employability. 

Subject to availability students can enrol on either the full time or part time programme.

Assessment within these modules will range from class tests, group work, lab reports and examinations.  All assessments are carried out in English.

Requirements

College regulations stipulate that applicants to the course must:

  • normally be 19 years of age or over at the date of entry to the programme and have no recent experience of formal education
  • provide evidence of a basic competence in written and oral communication in English and Numeracy skills
  • demonstrate motivation for and ability to cope with the academic demands of the programme
  • complete a diagnostic test to assess their competence in literacy and numeracy.
