Overview

This is a one-year, full-time,  fast track, course which is designed to attract students who want to progress into Higher Education within the fields of Maths and Finance. This course will develop your knowledge and application of both Maths and Finance and prepare you to progress to Higher Education. Whilst the course is free additional costs may be incurred for materials required for Maths including a calculator and geometry set. 

About the course 

On the course you will be taught modules in Maths, Finance and Accounting.  These modules are aimed at giving students a strong foundation in the subjects and 

have been designed in conjunction with Ulster University to ensure the students are prepared to progress to a Higher Education course in the fields of Maths and Finance.  

 Modules include: 

  •  Introduction to Mathematics
    • Introduction to Budgeting & Budgetary Control
    • Core Mathematics 
    • Accounting  
    • Advanced Mathematics 
    • Principles of Finance 

This programme of study is likely to include enrichment activities/module(s) to enhance your employability.  

Assessment within these modules will range from class tests, group work and examinations.  All assessments are carried out in English.

Requirements

College regulations stipulate that applicants to the course must: 

  •  normally be 19 years of age or over at the date of entry to the programme and have no recent experience of formal education;
  •  provide evidence of a basic competence in written and oral communication in English and Numeracy skills;
  •  demonstrate motivation for and ability to cope with the academic demands of the programme;
  •  complete a diagnostic test to assess their competence in literacy and numeracy.

Students who successfully complete the diploma may progress to study for degrees as diverse as Accountancy, Business, Finance and Education.  Students who successfully complete the course may also progress to further and higher courses within Belfast Met, including HND and Foundation Degree programmes. .
