Overview
An Essential Skills NI Literacy qualification will build on your existing skills and help to boost your confidence in reading and writing as well as improving your communication in normal life. It will also provide the skills needed to understand and manage everyday tasks like form filling, reading documents, writing clearly and understanding important information.
You will also learn how to use these skills in digital situations, like emails and online forms, to support work and home needs.
The Adult Literacy Core Curriculum focuses on three key areas:
- Speaking and listening
- Reading
- Writing
Completion of Initial Assessment – meeting pass criteria
ESOL learners should have achieved level 1 in Reading, Writing and Speaking & Listening or be at this level.
Our Essential Skills courses are free
- One exam, set and marked externally, to assess reading and writing skills.
- Submission of a Speaking and Listening portfolio.
