City & Guilds Level 1 Diploma In Construction Skills (601/0329/2)
Overview
The following short video is from the Construction Industry Training Board NI and outlines the wide range of careers in the Built Environment.
This one year course is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in Construction but who have not met the entry requirements for a Level 2 course.
The course consists of theory and practical lessons including Introduction to the Construction Industry, Health & Safety, bricklaying, plumbing and joinery modules.
In addition the course will cover Essential Skills in Numeracy and Literacy (if required).
Achieve 4 GCSEs grades A-G with a minimum:
- GCSE Grade E or above in Maths and English or equivalent.
Non-native speakers must provide evidence of competency in English Language.
Non-academic course entry requirements
Important: All applicants must also meet the following conditions:
· be 16 years old by 1 July 2026.
· provide proof of:
o Right to Study in the UK. For courses with work placement, proof of your right to work in the UK is also required.
o Photographic proof of identity
· Provide translated copies of and/or demonstrate equivalency of non-UK qualifications.

Assessment is by a combination of practical assignments and written theory classes.
Careers
Following successful completion of course and essential skills, students could progress to a variety of Level 2 courses including Brickwork, Carpentry & Joinery or Plumbing.
