Overview
Accounting is an integral part of any business and a discipline which offers a wide variety of employment opportunities.
The growth in multi-national organisations means that a qualification in accounting can provide you with global employment opportunities.
If you are interested in specialising in accounting and working within the financial or wider business sector, then this course is for you. This course is part of the two-year Higher-Level Apprenticeship program and runs for one day in college and the rest with an employer in an accountancy role (see entry requirements).

In order to be accepted onto this course you must be employed in a relevant job position on commencement of the course in September.
When you submit your application, your details and CV will be forwarded to participating accountancy employers who have registered their interest with the College. However, there is no guarantee that you will secure a job position on applying for this course.
Employers will manage recruitment through their own selection processes which is outside the control of the College. This will follow a typical recruitment process whereby you will be asked to attend interviews etc.
It is strongly encouraged that you go about securing your own relevant job position if possible and if you do secure employment with a view to doing the HLA in Accounting you are welcome to apply for this course and provide details of your employer.
As a guide, you should expect to have:
- A minimum of 96 tariff points (UCAS New tariff points for entry to Higher Education) from any A Level subject combination; or a minimum of MMM profile on Extended Diploma in Business and Finance or related area.
- You must also have minimum Grade B/6 in GCSE Maths and Grade C/4 in GCSE English (or equivalent).
Proof of qualifications MUST be provided when you enrol, e.g. exam certificates.
Achieved and pending qualifications can be recorded now by logging into your online application account.
All courses within Belfast Met are delivered and assessed in English, apart from language-specific courses. Your competence in English must be verified prior to enrolling on your chosen course.

This course is fully funded by the Department for the Economy.
All modules - summative assessment by ATI external examinations held in May annually. Each exam is approximately 3 to 3.75 hours long.
Completion of 2-year work placement e portfolio.
Careers
Chartered Accountant – Auditing financial records. Reviewing and certifying book of accounts, balance sheets and statutory returns. Budgeting and reporting. Forecasting and investigation finance and account issues.
Tax Advisor – Researching, analysing, and interpreting changing tax legislation. Providing documentation for correct implementation of company products. HMRC enquiry work and Tax Tribunals.
Financial Advisor - working with individuals to provide advice on tax and estate planning, retirement, risk management, savings, and investment.
