Your Thoughts Matter

The first instalment of the staff suggestion scheme was carried out in December 2014 where the best idea could win £100 pounds with suggestions that result in implementation winning £20. Staff from across the organisation submitted their ideas which ranged from turning off electrical equipment when not in use through to changing the date of graduation to allow more students to attend.
Three staff members were each awarded £20 for their ideas:
Wendy McAllister from the Corporate Communications & Marketing Department
Tom Close from the School of Construction
Harry McArthur from the Estates & Facilities Management Department
These ideas will now be taken forward for further consideration and implementation. Of worthy mention is the other staff members who submitted ideas – Danielle Neill and Lorraine Scullion from the HR Department, Ros Boyce from the Standards Improvement Unit and Ann Garret from the school of Healthcare, Leisure and Sport.
All ideas from our staff are more than welcome and please do not wait until the next staff suggestion scheme to put forward your ideas. If you think that your idea will improve productivity, efficiency or increase customer satisfaction please do discuss with your line manager.
Feedback from Tea with MT
The first ‘Tea with MT’ took place on Monday 15 December, 2014. It was highly successful and resulted in some great feedback.
Some of the points raised included:
- There needs to be an ATM on the premises at Titanic Quarter.
- The College should consider acknowledging staff who reach key employment service milestones.
- Definite improvements have been seen on the IT Help Desk.
- The induction process for new members of staff is poor and needs improved. A face to face welcome with Executive Team is needed.
- We should invest time in automating EMA and linking to e-registers.
- Qlikview is really positive however greater access to it is required.
- Can some time be set aside as part of the two day staff development conference for training tailored to individual areas of work?
- The Knorr Junior All Ireland Chef of the Year is coming to the North and this is a great honour for the College to host this prestigious competition.
- Individuals were unclear as to how the Belfast Met Trust is currently promoted. The formation screens and menu screens should be used to promote the work of the Trust. Learners want a qualification plus employment experience. Others need to be trained to upload content onto the digital signage.
- We should communicate to staff that a new website is in development and do more on social media. We will be launching ‘Think Social’ shortly.
Overall the event was very well received by all. The next Tea with MT will take place on the 23 February. |
