The Access Diploma in Foundation Studies is a one year Level 3 (A Level equivalent) course, which is a route for students who have been away from full time education for at least two full consecutive academic years to gain entry to a wide range of higher education courses. It is awarded by Queen’s University Belfast and is recognised by other higher education institutions for entry to undergraduate courses. Students who successfully complete the course may also progress to further and higher courses within Belfast Met, including HND and Foundation Degree programmes. The course consists of six modules:

• Pure Mathematics 1;
• Pure Mathematics 2;
• Physics 1;
• Physics 2;
• Mechanics;
• Study Skills.

This programme of study is likely to include enrichment units which are an additional component to enhance your employability.

Career Opportunities / Progression

Successful students have in the past progressed to study degrees, HND or Foundation Degrees in the following areas: Aeronautical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronic and Electric Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Product Design and Development.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have been out of full-time education for at least two full academic years and should hold at least Grade B in GCSE Maths and Grade C in GCSE English (or equivalent qualification including Essential Skills Literacy Level 2).

Please note that this is an intensive and challenging course which requires a high level of commitment to achieve success.
