This course provides for those currently working (or interested in working) with children and young people primarily in after-school care settings and play centres. Playwork is now recognised by Social Services as the most appropriate qualification for working with school-aged children in a range of settings including daycare and after school clubs. This full-time course is delivered in one year and includes up to five mornings in College and up to three afternoons on placement. You will study a wide variety of units relating to the play worker’s role in promoting opportunities for children and young people to play. During the course, you will build up a portfolio of evidence and be assessed in the workplace.

This programme of study is likely to include enrichment units which are an additional component to enhance your employability.

Career Opportunities / Progression

This qualification will enable you to apply for employment in afterschool clubs, play care clubs, play centres, school-aged childcare, full day care and other play settings. You will also be able to progress to further study at Level 3 Diploma in Playwork or related fields.
