Higher Level Apprenticeships
Higher Level Apprenticeships offer a new and exciting employed-pathway for learners to gain professionally recognised qualifications at level 4 and level 5 whilst actively working in paid employment with partner employers. Belfast Met proactively work with national, regional and local employers to develop partnerships to provide the level of mentoring and support to offer learners the opportunity to undertake a Higher Level Apprenticeship.
The entry requirements for the Higher Level Apprenticeships target both those with A Level qualifications who wish to explore a different learning journey and provides a valuable upskilling opportunity for current employees seeking to develop new skills. Each programme has varied entry requirements as detailed in the prospectus.

Higher Level Apprenticeships offer an employed-pathway for learners to gain professionally recognised qualifications at level 4 and level 5, whilst actively working in paid employment with partner employers. Belfast Met proactively work with national, regional and local employers to develop partnerships to provide the level of mentoring and support to offer learners the opportunity to undertake a Higher Level Apprenticeship.
Opportunities are available for new employees or an existing employee in a new job role to gain qualifications from Level 4 upwards. Entry requirements will depend on the apprenticeship pathway.
An Apprentice needs to:
- be employed or be about to be employed as an apprentice with a Northern Ireland based company
- work a minimum of 21 hours per week (which includes time for 'off-the-job' training)
- meet the entry requirements of their chosen occupation
- be the minimum school leaver age in Northern Ireland.
The duration of a Higher Level Apprenticeship will vary depending on the programme. It will take a minimum of 2 years to complete.
Higher Level Apprenticeships we currently offer include qualifications from Level 4 up to Level 5. It is anticipated that Higher Level Apprenticeships will be available in the future at Level 7 and 8 (Post Graduate Awards).
