Belfast Met Receives High Commendation for Data
Belfast Met have achieved a highly commended certification at the Irish News Work and Employment Awards for their partnership with the Deloitte Data Analytics Training Academy ‘DATA’. The awards, now in its ninth year were held at Titanic Belfast and hosted by BBC broadcaster Karen Patterson to recognise top-performing companies and organisations across every sector of the field of employment.
The Career Inspiration category relates to companies and organisations in the private and public sector that have achieved successful strategic partnerships with businesses in order to enable individuals, particularly young people with the opportunity to achieve their career ambitions and receive new job opportunities.
The awarding winning academy was devised by Deloitte to search and select new recruits into the company that would be able to meet the international client demand of the global professional services company, particularly in the field of data analytics. Together Belfast Met and Deloitte have developed DATA, which offers nine weeks of intensive training at Belfast Met followed by six weeks at Deloitte. The courses have quickly delivered spectacular results with over 600 applicants in the second series of the programme and all 20 applicants securing a role in Deloitte or in a similar field of employment elsewhere.

The academy would not be possible without the support of the Department for Employment and Learning. DATA is supported by DEL’s Assured Skills initiative, which was devised in order for higher education colleges to create economically relevant skills focused programmes which will offer participants relevant industry training and skills. Since 2012, the Academy training model has provided 348 young people with the motivation, the skills and the technical knowledge to begin careers in sectors of the economy awash with job opportunities.
