Hedgerow planting at Springvale Campus

Support staff Belfast Met’s Springvale campus recently took part in a hedgerow planting initiative organised as part of the Belfast Hills Partnership and Belfast City Council’s “One Million Trees project”.
Ultimately the aim is to create a 600-metre hedgerow around the perimeter of the campus by planting 3000 plants over a five-year period.
Some 30 staff from support teams across the Springvale campus volunteered to get the project started by planting a mix of approximately 625 Hawthorn, Crab Apple, Holly, Wild Cherry, Hazel, Spindle and Rowan plants.
The initiative supports a key theme of the College’s recently launched Sustainability and Climate Action Framework by increasing the biodiversity of our campus grounds.
