ESOL Assessment and Enrolment

You must be at least 16 years old to study ESOL/ELT at Belfast Metropolitan College. All new students must complete the assessments / tests before the start of the course. You will do a test to check your level of English and our ESOL/ ELT staff will advise you on the best course for you.

 

Belfast Met - January 2024 Assessment & Enrolment Process 

 

You need to create an account to register for an ESOL assessment. The links will be live on Monday 18th December 2023 at 2.00 pm.

Please register promptly as there is a high demand for ESOL courses, and you may find that registrations close very soon if we reach capacity.  If you need help to register, college library staff at our Titanic Quarter campus will be available from 2.00 pm-4.00pm on Monday 18th December 2023.

Online Assessment

 

What is ESOL Assessment?

 

Before you start an ESOL course at Belfast Met, we need to check your level of English. At the ESOL assessment we will test your English and give you advice about the best class for you.

After you register for ESOL Assessment & Enrolment you will be emailed a link to complete the online assessment tests. You must complete all parts of the test within 48 hours of being sent the link.

Important: If you do not complete the tests by the deadline your tests will not be marked and you cannot be enrolled or placed on any course waiting lists.

If you have any difficulties with the tests please contact us ESOL@belfastmet.ac.uk before the deadline.

 

What if I have no access Online to do the Assessment?

 

If you cannot do the assessment online, please email ESOLBookings@Belfastmet.ac.uk

 

What should I need to enrol?

Please send us Photographic ID - Passport, Identity card, or an official document that shows your photograph, name, nationality, and date of birth clearly

 

Do I need to do the Assessment if I already have a certificate showing my level of English?

 

If you have passed an official English exam in the last 12 months, please send us the certificate by email. This will help us to decide on the best class for you. Please note that you will still need to book an assessment appointment.

 

At what age can I start studying at the college?

 

You must be 16 years old or over on 1 July 2023.

 

What if I have no English?

 

You will still need to book on for the assessment.


Please be aware that assessment bookings are limited. If you have any questions / difficulties / issues please email ESOL@Belfastmet.ac.uk.

Courses are planned to be delivered face to face. However, due to Covid-19 and Public Health Authority advice, they may have to be moved to blended or online delivery.

 

Please note that if you enrol on an ESOL course:

  • You are expected to attend all the classes.
  • If you do not attend classes you may not be allowed to complete your course.
  • If you cannot attend one class you must inform your teacher in advance
  • You are expected to sit the examination at the end of the course.
