Title: BTEC Level 5 HND in Computing (General)
 
 
Level: 5
 
Entry Requirements:

Applicants are expected to have at least four GCSEs at grades A* - C (including English and Maths) and you must have one of the following: 

  • One GCE/VCE A level; or
  • A BTEC National Diploma/Certificate/Award; or 
  • A GNVQ Advanced Award; or 
  • An Access Award; or 
  • An Irish Leaving Certificate with at least two Higher Level passes; or 
  • Equivalent qualifications or relevant experience.

Applicants without grade A* - C in GCSE Mathematics (or the equivalent) must follow an Essential Skills Level 2 Numeracy course.  Applicants without grade A* - C in GCSE English Language (or the equivalent) must follow an Essential Skills Level 2 Literacy course.

In the event that the course is oversubscribed, the BMC’s tariff system for Academic Qualification will be applied.


 

Attendance: Two years.
 
Structure and Content:

The Higher National award in Computing will offer a Level 5 qualification that provides access to university, careers in computing and higher level courses.

 

Current trends towards widespread communication, e-business and a proliferation of electronic devices in our society indicate the need for learners to develop a detailed range of computing skills and techniques.

 

In order to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills which are essential for successful performance in the modern workplace, the course will provide training in the areas of:

 

  • Information systems and project management;
  • Understanding computer systems and computer networks;
  • Understanding and programming computing systems;
  • Multimedia and website design;
  • Understanding e-business and Internet technology; and
  • Creating and accessing databases in e-business projects.

The two year course will be delivered in a modular format across two semesters per year.
