Title: Foundation Degree in Science, iMedia
 
Why should I do this course?

This Foundation Degree in Imedia (FdSc) has an academic currency and increases opportunities for progression to study at higher levels, in particular to the BSc (Hons) Interactive Multimedia Design (completing the honours programme in two further years of study) at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown.

The FdSc qualification includes employer involvement within curriculum development and delivery to ensure that the skills students acquire meet industry needs.  Career opportunities are also made available by achieving this qualification in an expanding and evolving market and includes working in the established fields of graphic and web design, video and audio production, motion graphics, animation, multimedia authoring and multimedia project management.

Entry Requirements:

You must have the following:

  • 80 UCAS Points with at least 40 obtained at A2 level or equivalent;
  • Five GCSEs, including English and Mathmatics at grade C or above;
  • Equivalent qualifications or relevant experience.


 

Attendance:

Two years.

 

 
Structure and Content:

Multimedia technologies and techniques are now part of mainstream business, for example, interactive web sites, e-commerce, promotional videos, etc.

The Foundation Degree in iMedia consists of a number of units covering the areas of creativity and design in this field: the implementation of multimedia systems, the use of the Internet and Website management and the design and implementation of multimedia systems, including the use of sound, music, animation and video.

The course will be delivered in a modular format within two semesters per year and includes a work placement component during the last semester.

Assessment: Assessment will be by assignments, examinations and work-based learning.
 
Employment
Further study:

Students progress to BSc (Hons) Interactive Multimedia Design (year 2) at University of Ulster, Jordanstown, or may seek employment in Design or Multimedia companies, Internet Service Providers or in-house IT design.
