Why should I do this course?

The programme has been designed to help those people who have been out of the full-time job market for some time. It aims to encourage a ‘can do’ perspective, helps individuals consider self employment, or working in the small business sector. The programme will help develop a positive enterprise culture and assist employability. |

Attendance:
|
College Square East.
Part-time, 3 hrs, Tuesday evening, 5.00-8.00 pm for 20 weeks plus two residentials.

Structure and Content:
|
Individuals will complete a level 2 qualification Exploring Business Enterprise (Institute of Leadership and Management) l. Participants will hear directly from existing successful businesses in the manufacturing and service sector as well as entrepreneurs and the support agencies. There will be a minimum of two residentials and the opportunity to attend various relevant conferences throughout the academic year. It is anticipated that students will be taken out of their existing comfort zones and will interact in the real business world.
The project activities will include:
- An introduction to study, college life, and work placement;
- Team building and problem solving;
- Vocational guest speakers;
- Work based class visits;
- Level 2 qualification in exploring enterprise;
- Economically active role models as one-to–one mentors;
- A Black board site and virtual business exercises;
- A skills audit and signposting;
- Vocational guidance and counselling;
- The Job search and application process;
- Work placement.

Assessment:

Course work totalling two assignments.

Employment Further study:
|
Throughout this programme students will be working towards becoming employed or self employed through a variety of means including work placement.
Successful participants may progress onto a variety of management or vocational courses offered within the Belfast Metropolitan College.
