Title: Diploma in Digital Applications (DIDA)
 
Why should I do this course?

You will gain skills in digital applications, use multimedia techniques to present your message.   The Diploma in Digital Applications (DiDA) provides a wide range of career options, as well as a route into further and higher education. 

DiDA could be your first step to third level qualifications and beyond or a career in the creative side of new media or more technical areas, sales and promotion or managing the whole project process.

Entry Requirements:

Students should have achieved the awarding body requirements for this course four GCSEs ( grade D or above), although consideration may be given to those applicants with grades E - G. 

Applicants who do not fulfil the above requirements, may still apply and if offered a place may be required to undertake additional supporting studies. 

Preference will be given to level 2 learners who can provide evidence of satisfactory attendance and punctuality.

Students will be required to attend an information session prior to acceptance on the course.

In the event that the course is oversubscribed, the BMC’s tariff system for Academic Qualification will be applied.

Structure and Content:

The Diploma in Digital Applications is made up of four units equivalent to four GCSEs grades A* - C.  Units include:

Unit 1: Using ICT

You will learn how to choose between sources of information, carry out effective searches, judge the quality and reliability of the information you find and be selective about what you use.

Unit 2: Multimedia

The aim of this unit is to provide you with the skills to use the tools and techniques provided by multimedia authoring software to design and create effective multimedia products for specified purposes and audiences.

Unit 3: Graphics

You will learn how to use ICT to produce images that communicate effectively on screen and in print and how to combine them with other components to produce graphic products.  You will need to consider the medium, purpose and audience as well as file format and size.

Unit 4: ICT and Enterprise

You will investigate possible enterprise opportunities and conduct market research to see which ones are likely to be successful.  You will use spreadsheet models to find out the effects of different plans such as changing the price of the product and increasing the number of customers.

Deloitte Employability Skills
Students will have the opportunity to achieve a further GCSE by completing the Deloitte Employability Skills programme.

 
Assessment: Each unit is assessed by planning and managing a project and each assessment is submitted using an e-portfolio.
 
Employment
Further study:

Students gaining a Diploma in Digital Applications will have access to a range of career and further education opportunities.  Students will learn and use a variety of skills throughout the course.  These skills are in great demand and are recognised and highly valued by employers and colleges.  Many students choose to use their qualification to go straight into employment, rather than go on to Further Education, while others progress to Level 3 Extended Diplomas.
