Level: 3
 
Entry Requirements:

You must have one of the following:

Four GCSE passes at Grade A-C, preferably including Maths, English and one Science subject; OR

Other qualifications deemed by the college to be equivalent.

Applications from people who do not have the specified minimum qualifications will be assessed on the applicant's ability to demonstrate, by virtue of experience and/or other studies, that he/she is capable of coping with the demands of the course.

Where demand for places on the course exceeds the number of places available, it may be necessary to apply additional selection criteria beyond the minimum standard.  Information on selection criteria may be obtained from the Course Co-ordinator.

Attendance: Two years full-time
 
Structure and Content:

This is a vocationally-related qualification that provides valuable opportunities for individuals to develop skills and gain underpinning knowledge and understanding which will support entry into the IT and engineering industries.

The course consists of a number of units covering the areas of:

  • PLC software engineering
  • Computer hardware and networking
  • Windows and Web development in Visual Basic.Net (Visual Studio 2005)
  • Database programming (SQL Server 2005)
  • Systems Design and Architecture
  • Microsoft Accredited modules

 

 
Assessment: Assessments will involve assignments, projects and exams.
