The UK has the second-largest Aeronautics industry in the world and as such requires a wide range of skilled engineers and technicians. Aeronautical engineering covers a wide range of skills, from initial design, manufacturing and construction to maintenance and overhaul of in-service aircraft. This course aims to provide the underpinning knowledge to anyone wanting to enter the aeronautical industry. We cover a range of theoretical, practical and mathematical based units from Computer Aided Design, to Theory of Flight and Manufacturing and Repair of Advanced Composite materials. We aim to deliver the broadest range of materials possible to ensure that students get the best experience and knowledge of the industry possible.
This is a two-year programme and on successful completion is equivalent to 3 A Levels.
This programme of study is likely to include enrichment units which are an additional component to enhance your employability.

On completion of this qualification successful candidates will be able to gain relevant employment in the sector or progress to a further qualification such as the HNC/HND in Aeronautical Engineering.
This course is linked to the Aerospace Engineering pathways offered by the University of South Wales. These courses include the opportunity to achieve EASA PART 66 Aircraft Maintenance qualification. Progression will require that the candidate has achieved the BTEC Extended Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering at grade Merit/Merit/Merit. In addition it is required that applicants achieve 5 GCSE’s (at Grade C or above) or their equivalent including Mathematics and English. A holistic approach to all applications is taken and therefore other relevant work/life experience would be taken into consideration.
The requirements for this course are a minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above with a minimum of a B in Mathematics and a C in English Language. A Level 2 Diploma in a relevant engineering subject will be considered dependent on grades achieved.
An informal interview may also form part of the selection process for this course.
