This accredited unit explores the way in which behaviour, social and emotional difficulties are linked with speech, language and communication and provide effective ways to support the speech, language and communication development of children and young people with behaviour, emotional and social difficulties.

Learning outcomes will include:

  • Understand the links between language, behaviour and social development difficulties: This will explain how behaviour can be seen as a means of communication and how speech, language and communication needs may affect behavioural, emotional and social development. The latest research in this area will be explored.

 

  • Understand how to support positive speech, language and communication development for children and young people with behavioural difficulties: This will identify key barriers to behaviourial, social and emotional development that are experienced by children and young people with speech, language and communication needs along with strategies to overcome barriers to support them.

 

  • Understand how to adapt strategies and approaches to behavioural, emotional and social development to meet speech, language and communication needs: This will identify and explain current evidence based approaches to understanding children and young person’s behaviour and examine how strategies to promote positive behaviour can be adapted.

 

  • Know how to work with others in order to support the speech, language and communication development of children and young people with behavioural, emotional and social development needs: This will explain ways in which working with parents and families can benefit everyone but it will also explain the roles of other professionals.

 

This accredited course would suit parents of children with speech, language and/or behavioural difficulties , educational professionals working with children or those interested in learning more about this aspect.
