This is a two year programme and is for students who are interested in the Events, Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Industries. It broadly equates to two A Levels plus a Level 3 certificate. Over the two years students will complete a Subsidiary Diploma in Travel and Tourism, a Subsidiary Diploma in Hospitality and a Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of Event Planning. This will give a detailed insight to these three vocational areas that are intrinsically linked and are very relevant to the diverse Northern Ireland Events and Tourism industry. Tourism NI has designated the events industry as a key economic driver and examples of global events include - The MTV awards, The Irish Open and The Giro d’Italia all serve to contribute to some 40,000 jobs in Northern Ireland’s tourism industry. Units will include, Health, safety and security at an event, Event evaluation and reporting, Planning and organising an event, working relationships, Event setup and break down, The hospitality industry, Customer service, The travel and tourism sector, Business of travel and tourism, UK as a destination and Visitor attractions.

This programme of study is likely to include enrichment units which are an additional component to enhance your employability.

Career Opportunities / Progression

This programme will give you the opportunity to progress directly into careers in the local events, travel, tourism or hospitality industry e.g. event’s organisers, tourist attractions, travel centres, hotels etc. The course is equal to two A Levels and students with relevant grades may progress onto a Foundation Degree in Travel and Tourism, Hospitality or Events at Belfast Metropolitan College.

Entry Requirements

Requirements are pre-defined by the College’s admissions criteria. You will need to have at least four GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English.  

Students will visit different attractions on the course at an additional cost of approx. £20.00.
