VTCT Level 4 Sports Massage Therapy
The objective of the VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy (QCF) is to prepare you to enter the specific sector of sports massage as a sports massage practitioner working with injured clients. All the units in this qualification related directly to the specific job of a sports massage practitioner.
The qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as a sports massage practitioner including the units:
1. Conduction Subjective and Objective Assessment
2. Treatment Modalities to support Soft Tissue Repair
3. Provide Sports Massage Techniques to Prevent and Manage Injury
Specifically, this qualification will develop your knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology to work on post-acute injury and pre-existing conditions, dealing with musculo-skeltal and para-tendon injuries.
You will develop the skills to carry out subjective and objective assessments on clients, which will cover active, passive and resisted range of movements, postural analysis, special tests, and functional tests. You will also develop the skills to work safely and effectively on muscle and para-tendon injuries using a variety of soft tissue repair.

A Level 3 qualification in sports massage therapy or equivalent
All fees are set in accordance with DfE regulations.
Learners are required to attend external sporting events outside of the scheduled college timetable, eg attending and working at the Belfast marathon, and there a four external events to attend.
Learners must be prepared to purchase a uniform costing approximately £25, recommended course text books, and are encouraged to purchase a portable sports massage couch (approximately £100).
What could this qualification lead to?
This qualification will prepare you for employment as a sports massage practitioner working with injured clients. Learners who complete this qualification may be able to gain employment and obtain insurance to work as a sports massage practitioner. Employment opportunities exist in a variety of setting, including:
- Private health clubs and leisure centres
- Sports centre and clubs
- Working independently/Self –employed/mobile/home-based settings
This qualification is different from the VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy (QCF) as it qualifies you to work with injured clients. The Level 3 qualification is more concerned with pre and post event management on-injured tissues.
