This is a 2 year course which includes anatomy & physiology content along with practical beauty therapy skills. It provides an in depth approach to learning in preparation for higher education. Working through a range of units you will develop skills for carrying out a range of beauty therapy techniques which will be offered in the commercial environment to make you as a therapist confident and employable.

It is based on the National Occupational Standards for Beauty Therapy. You will be taught by highly trained, motivated and experienced staff in our fully equipped modern salons.

Year 1 units include: Facial Skincare, Make Up, Lash & Brow Treatments, Manicure, Pedicure, Waxing, Nail Technology and Business Units.

Year 2 units include: Facial & Body Electrotherapy, Body Massage, Spa Therapy, Stone Therapy and related Business units.

Level 2 Qualifications in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT are also part of the programme for students who have not achieved a Grade C in these subjects.

This programme of study is likely to include enrichment units which are an additional component to enhance your employability.

Career Opportunities / Progression

There are many local, national and international career opportunities open to the qualified beauty therapist including work in salons, department stores, hotels, health farms, cruise liners and spas. With additional qualifications, opportunities exist to work as a manufacturer, technician, trainer or assessor.

Possible progression to City & Guilds Level 4 in Beauty Therapy or HND in Hair & Beauty Management.

The entry criteria is pre-defined by the college’s admissions policy.

You are required to purchase a Belfast Met Uniform and Kit - specific details will be given at pre-entry advice and guidance sessions.
