Course Overview
The main topics are:
* Exploration of Active Listening and Responding Skills;
* Understanding Counselling and Related Terms;
* Confidentiality and Related Issues;
* Exploring self and how we relate to others;
* Practical role-plays and small group work.

You will be assessed by way of a Learning Review which you will write throughout the course; by tutor observation of your skills, practice and completion of a portfolio of evidence.


Ten weeks, part-time, three hours per week.

The course is run during the day and in the evening at our Millfield Campus.

This course will be beneficial to those wishing to complete a first course in Counselling. It will provide the opportunity to enhance listening and helping skills in both a professional and private capacity.
This qualification is intended for candidates who want to learn counselling skills to help others – either in a voluntary or an employed situation - and want to find out more about this field.

This course won’t teach them to be a counsellor but may help them decide whether or not to continue training.

There are no formal entry requirements to this course but you must have a level of spoken English that allows you to complete the assessment requirements of the course.

Because of the nature of this course it is not suitable for those who are currently in a state of severe emotional difficulty or psychological confusion.
