QlikView

Between September 2013 and April 2014, the College conducted a Review of Management Information that resulted in a report that was endorsed by the Executive Team in April 2014. As part of the review, the IT/IS team set up and ran a reporting system pilot to test the Management Information System (MIS) solutions that were available. This consisted of piloting the QlikView reporting system for attendance monitoring in one school. The pilot ran from December 2013 to April 2014 and was seen as a great success.

Review of Management Information

In April 2014, a new MIS project was set up to deliver the recommendations of the Review of Management Information. This consisted of

  • Defining the reporting requirements;
  • Completing a business case and procurement for a new reporting system;
  • Implementing the new reporting system; and,
  • Putting a new organisation structure in place to support the new reporting system.

For the first phase, the project has focussed on Curriculum reporting only.

What has been delivered to date?

The project has been very successful so far, delivering:

  • QlikView licenses;
  • Third party resources to support implementation;
  • A suite of agreed reports for Curriculum reporting; and,
  • Training for staff in the use of QlikView.

Positive Impact on the College

QlikView is having a massive impact on the College by providing easier access to information that was always there, but difficult to get at and use. QlikView has provided management and staff across the Curriculum with easy access to information to help us improve efficiency in the College. For the first time, we have access to reliable, easy to understand Management Information that can be used to improve the service we are delivering.

The Next Phase

Phase 2 of the project will begin to look at bringing in other data sources and management information sources from across the College such as HR and Finance data amongst others. QlikView is already being used in performance reviews across the College and this will increase as more and more data is brought into the QlikView reporting system.
